My Take & Results On WWE Crown Jewel 1/6/18
Crown Jewel was an event that was held on Friday 11/2/18. It took place at 12 noon eastern time, and it was broadcast live from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, before this event, controversy surrounded this event. I won't get into it, but, it's easily searchable.
This event was shocking for two reasons, when no other woman on the WWE roster was allowed to set foot in Saudi Arabia, ringside commentator Renee Young was allowed to call the action along side Michael Cole & Corey Graves, and she did it without having to wear a burka.
The other thing that shocked me was the appearance of the Immortal Hulk Hogan who was the host of this event.
The event kicks off on the Kick-Off Show, as United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura defends against Rusev.
As much as I would have loved to have seen a title change hands at this event, Shinsuke retains after hitting the Kinshasa knee strike.
The event starts in earnest as Hulk Hogan makes his return makes his return to WWE as host of Crown Jewel...Next, the WWE World Cup Tournament begins with Randy Orton taking on Rey Mysterio Jr.
Rey Jr. rolls Orton up for the victory, but, after the match, Orton hits an RKO out of nowhere and just brutalizes Mysterio after the match.
Next, The Miz faces Jeff Hardy. I'm very surprised that WWE is able to refer to Hardy as The Charismatic Enigma, which is what Jeff was known as during his days in TNA/Impact Wrestling. The Miz hit The Skull Crushing Finale to defeat Jeff Hardy and advance in the tournament.
Next up: Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins takes on Bobby Lashley with Lio Rush.
I'm thankful for two things with Bobby Lashley, one, WWE doesn't refer to him as simply Lashley, and two, they don't call him 'Walking Armageddon', which is what that idiot Jeremy Borash, who, if you look closely still has his nose firmly up Vince Russo's ass, referred to Bobby Lashley as in Impact Wrestling...Originally, this was supposed to be John Cena vs. Rollins, but, due to the controversy surrounding this event, Cena refused to participate in this event, and he was replaced by Bobby Lashley.
Bobby Lashley dominated this match up until Seth hit The Curb Stomp seemingly out of nowhere for the victory.
Next up, Kurt Angle vs. Dolph Ziggler.
Ziggler somehow survived the Angle Slam and the ankle lock to hit the Zig Zag and get the victory over Angle.
So, the semi-finals are set it's The Miz vs. Rey Jr. & Seth Rollins vs. Dolph Ziggler.
Smackdown Tag Team Championships: The Bar Show (Sheamus & Cesaro) (C) w/The Big Show vs. The New Day (Big E & Kofi Kingston) w/Xavier Woods.
The Bar Show retains after The Big Show hit Big E with The Knockout Punch followed by a Brogue Kick by Sheamus.
Semi-Finals for The World Cup Tournament...
The Miz vs. Rey Mysterio Jr.
The Miz hit The Skull Crushing Finale, but, Rey Jr. kicked out, Rey hits the 619, and goes for a Frog Splash, an homage to the late Eddy Guerrero (and yes, that's how it's spelled), but, the Miz got his knees up, connecting with the ribs that were injured by Randy Orton earlier in the evening. And The Miz advances to the finals of The World Cup tournament.
Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins vs. Dolph Ziggler.
Highly entertaining match. Rollins hit the Rip Cord Knee, Ziggler kicks out, Ziggler hits the Famasser, Rollins kicked out. Rollins goes for the SuperPlex/Falcon Arrow combo, Ziggler counters into the Zig Zag, Rollins again kicks out. Rollins goes to the top rope, McIntyre pushes him off, and Ziggler hits the super kick, and advances to the finals of the World Cup Tournament vs. The Miz.
WWE Championship match:
AJ Styles (C) vs. Samoa Joe
Originally it was supposed to be Styles vs. Daniel Bryan, but, like John Cena, due to the controversy surrounding this event, and the fact that Bryan's wife, Brie Bella couldn't go with him, Daniel Bryan refused to appear, the title match was moved to the go home episode of Smackdown Live just days before Crown Jewel and Bryan was replaced by Samoa Joe at Crown Jewel.
Styles hit the Phenomenal Forearm to defeat Samoa Joe
Universal Title Match
Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman
Baron Corbin attacked Strowman before the match, but, still Strowman kicked out of several F5 finishers before Lesnar became a 2x Universal champion.
World Cup Tournament Final...
The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler
Smackdown Commissioner Shane McMahon replaces and injured Miz in the tournament finale.
The match starts out with the referee sending Drew McIntyre back to the locker room.
Ziggler & The Miz brawl before the match begins, but, The Miz injured his ankle, causing Shane McMahon to step in.
Ziggler hit a Zig Zag, but the referee was bust sending Baron Corbin to the back, and McMahon kicked out.
McMahon hit a coast to coast to pin Ziggler and win the tournament.
Main Event:
DX (Triple H & Shawn Michaels) vs. The Brothers Of Destruction (The Undertaker & Kane).
Why is this the Main Event?
It's worth noting that Triple McMahon...I mean H, was legit hurt in this match, tearing his pec muscle on a flip over the top rope. In all honesty, he should stick to being the creative genius behind NXT and 205 Live.
Shawn Michaels hit Sweet Chin Music on both The Undertaker & Kane and Triple H hot a Pedigree on Kane for the victory
All except the choice of Main Event, this event was good
Next event I review: NXT Takeover: War Games 2
