SummerSlam 2017 Review...

I just finished watching this show, & it's taken me a while to post this review, but, it is what it is...

Anyhow, this is my review of SummerSlam 2017, from the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn, New York City, New York...

At the time of this PPV, WWE was putting on two PPV's a month one for Raw & one for Smackdown Live, & 4 times a year they had what was called a co-branded PPV, & this was one of them...

The preshow was 2 hours long & featured 3 matches, 2 of them were title matches...

Jason Jordan & The Hardy Boyz vs. Intercontinental Champion The Mix & The Miz-Tourage (Bo Dallas & Curtis Axel)

The Miz & The Miz-Tourage win when The Miz hits the Skull Crushing Finale on Jason Jordan for the pin fall victory...

WWE Cruiserweight Championship

Akira Tozawa (c) wi/Titus O'Neal vs. Neville

Neville wins the title after hitting the Red Arrow splash off the top rope for the pin fall victory.

Smackdown Tag Team Championship

The New Day (c) (Xavier Woods & Big E) w/Kofi Kingston vs. The Uso's (Jimmy & Jey)

Another classic tag team match between these two outstanding tag teams.

The Uso's win the titles after hitting the double Uso splashes off the top rope for the pin fall victory.

On to the main show....

John Cena vs. Baron Corbin

The lead up to this match was excellent as about a couple of weeks before, Cena faced Shinsuke Nakemura for the right to face Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship, Corbin attacked Nakamura & Cena made the save.

And a week before, Cena faced Mahal, and had the match won after hitting a Super Attitude Adjustment off the top rope, but Corbin interfered, Cena won by DQ, but Corbin, who was Mr. Money In The Bank at the time, decides to cash in his briefcase that night on Smackdown Live, and he's set to challenge Jinder Mahal that night, but just as the bell rings, Corbin to distracted by Cena, long enough for Mahal to roll Corbin up for the victory. This led to this match between Corbin & Cena at SummerSlam...

Good back & forth between these two...

Cena wins by pin fall after an Attitude Adjustment...

Smackdown Women's Championship

Naomi (c) vs. Natalya

This match was okay

Natalya made Naomi submit in her second attempt at the Sharpshooter to win the title.

Big Cass vs. Big Show.

Enzo Amore is locked in a shark cage above the ring.

In the weeks leading up to this event, it was revealed that Big Cass was the one who was attacking Enzo backstage, resulting in the break up of Enzo & Cass. The Big Show took up the fight for Enzo, but Cass broke Show's hand, the same hand Show uses for the Knockout Punch.

Also, Cass suggested the Enzo by locked in a cage to precent him form interfereing...

Show does hit the KO Punch but is unable to pin Cass, Enzo escapes the cage, only to be KO'ed by a big boot from Cass. Cass picks up the victory after a Big Boot followed by the Empire Elbow.

Randy Orton vs. Rusev...

Rusev wanted a match at SummerSlam, Orton accepted, and I know on at least one occasion, Orton laid Rusev out with an RKO.

Anyhoo, Rusev attacks Orton as he makes his entrance, only to be quickly laid out with an RKO as soon as the bell rings.

Orton wins in a glorified squash match.

Raw Women's Championship

Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Sasha Banks

It was originally supposed to be Bayley vs. Bliss, but in a match with Nia Jax, Bayley legit injured her shoulder and Banks replaced Bayley

Banks wins the title by submission after multiple Bank Statement attempts...

'The Demon' Finn Balor vs. Bray Wyatt.

Balor morphed into The Denon after Wyatt poured a red liquid all over Balor on Raw.

The Demon wins by pin fall in a good match.

Raw Tag Team Championship

Sheamus & Cesaro (c) vs. Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose

The reformation of The Shield was on the horizon, and would happen weeks later, but it started with Rollins & Ambrose getting back together.

Great match!

Rollns & Ambrose win the titles by pin fall after a Rip Cord Knee/Dirty Deeds DDT combo.

Untited States Championship

AJ Styles (c) vs. Kevin Owens

Shane McMahon is the referee.

At a house show at Madison Square Garden, Styles pinned KO to win the title, At the Battleground PPV, Owens regained the title, two nights later on Smackdown Live, Styles regained the title in a Triple Threat match that also involved Chris Jericho. One week later Owens got his rematch, but the referee took a bump, and Styles retained even though Owens clearly had his shoulder up. Leadin this rematch at SummerSlam with Shane as the referee

Shane takes several bumps, Owens feels he won the match after a Pop Up Power Bomb, but Shane was slow to make the count. AJ made Owens  tap the the Calf Crusher but Shane had been knocked out of the ring.

Styles eventually retained by pin fall after a Phenomenal Forearm followed by a Styles Clash.

WWE Championship

Jinder Mahal (c) w/The Singh Brothers vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

Okay match, Mahal retains after hitting The Kallaus (sp?) after interference by The Singh Brothers.

Main Event:

Univeral Championship

Brock Lesnar (c) w/Paul Heyman vs. Braun Strowman vs. Samoa Joe vs. Roman Reigns...

Extremely physical match.

Strowman drove Lesnar thorough not one but two announce tables, & put a third on top of The Beast. This is building to Lesnar vs Strowman at No Mercy.

Lesnar wins by pin fall after hitting an F5 on Reigns.

All in all, I felt SummerSlam 2017 was a solid show...

Next, I'll review last nights Extreme Rules...
