WCW SuperBrawl 2000 Review 04-01-2023

WCW SuperBrawl 2000 from February 20, 2000 from the Cow Palace in San Francisco, California

Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay & Mark Madden on commentary

First match

The finals of the tournament to determine a new WCW Cruiserweight champion as The Artist Formerly Known As Prince Iaukea w/ Paisley takes on Lash LeRoux

This match was olay, although Paisley (Booker T's wife Sharmell...) spent a lot of time on the ring apron.

The Artist became Cruiserweight champion following a top rope DDT...

WCW Hardcore Championship match...

Bam Bam Bieglow (c) vs. Brian Knobbs.

Knobbs received a lot of help from Fit Finaly, who cost Knobbs the championship only a matter of a couple of weeks ago...

Bieglow had the match won after hitting Greetings From Asbury Park, but her went for the diving headbutt, but Finlay caused enough of a distraction that Knobbs hit Bieglow with the cast on his broken arm & pinned Bieglow on the outside to win the championship

3 on 1 Handicap match

3 Count vs. Screamin' Norman Smiley.

3 Count were able to target Smiley's injured ribs and Shannon Moore locked in a Boston Crab to make Smiley tap out.

Special Main Event.

The Demon vs. The Wall

Okay back & forth match.

The Wall wins by pin fall following a top rope choke slam

Leather Jacket on a pole match

Tank Abbott vs. Big Al

Big Al had Tank Abbott knocked out but refused to go for the jacket, allowing Abbott to get up, knock Big Al out & win the match by retreiving the jacket.

After the match, the cameras had to cut away quickly as Abbott held a knife to Big Al's throat and screamed 'I could fucking kill you!'

The battle to the rights to the name Harlem Heat

Booker vs. Big T (Ahmed Johnson) w/Stevie Ray & Jay Biggs

Sloppy match, Johnson but on a lot of muscle mass since his WWF days, & it doesn't make him any more mobile.

Lots of outside interference, an unknown man comes to ringside to attack Booker, allowing Big T to hit (I don't what else to call it...) the Pearl River Plunge powerbomb for the victory...

Vampiro vs. Billy Kidman w/Torrie Wilson

Okay match.

Kidman wins by pin fall after a top rope DDT

Sicilian Stretcher Match for the WCW World Tag Team Titles

The Mamalukes (c) w/Disco Inferno vs. David Flair & Crowbar w/Daphne

Okay match, the crowd popped when the Mamalukes tied Daphne to a wheelchair & taped her mouth shut (she screams constantly throughout the match.)

The Mamalukes retain after Flair and Crowbar are taken backstage on stretchers

Throughout the night they show interview segments with The Maestro & Ernest 'The Cat' Miller. The Maestro says, if The Cat can produce James Brown, he'll listen to whatever music The Cat wants, but if not, The Cat must fetch The Maestro's bags & listen to Beethoven

The time has come, and The Cat brings out a James Brown impersonator, and The Maestro comes out and demands The Cat get his bags, just then, the real James Brown appears & The Maestro faints in the ring.

The Cat & James Brown then do some dancing in the ring

Texas Death Match

Ric Flair vs. Terry Funk

Terry Funk scores a pin fall o the outside following a suplex, but Flair answers the 10 count

Flair makes Funk submit to the figure fout, but Funk answers the 10 count,

Funk then scores another pin fall but Flair again answers the 10 count

Funk then piledrives Flair through a table, but keeps pulling Flair's shoulder up before the 3 count.

Funk then goes to drive Flair through another table, but Flair instead drives Funk through the table for a pin, & Funk is unable to answer the 10 count. Flair wins...

Co-maim event...

The Total Package w/Elizabeth vs. Hulk Hogan w/Jimmy Hart

Jimmy hart comes to ringside to stop Elizabeth from interfering.

Hogan wins by pin fall after both he & Jimmy Hart hit Luger with the casts on their broken arms, Hogan then hits the leg drop for the victory.

Hogan is then about to whip Luger with his weightlifiting belt, but Ric Flair comes out & he & Luger double team Hogan, Sting comes to save Hogan...

Main event: Three Way Dance for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship

Sid Vicious (c) vs. Scott Hall vs. Jeff Jarrwett w/Ron & Don Harris

Short match, Jarrett single handedly takes out 4 referees allowing his handpicked referee Slick Johnson to come  down to the ring.

Scott Hall had the match won, but Johnson refused to count the pin.

Roddy Piper then comes down to the ring, just as Sid hit the powerbomb on Hall

Piper counts the thress and SId wins & retains...

it was an okay event...

Mark Madden had one line in this show that made me laugh, during the Vampiro/Kidman match he said: 'In one year this match will be for the United States Championship in 2 years it'll be for the Heavyweight championship...'

WCW only lasted one more year

Next up: my review of WWE NXT Stand & Deliver
